Sunset Wish Foundation

The Sunset Wish Foundation is an extraordinary 501(c)(3) public charitable organization.  Our mission is to bring happiness into the lives of terminally ill adults ages 18 and older and their loved ones through the Wish Fulfillment Program.  When an individual has 1 year or less to live, we can assist in turning their wish into a reality. 

 

When patients are overwhelmed with mounting medical expenses, they often abandon the thoughts of being able to take a special trip with their family, or create a fun memory with their loved ones. It may be hard to come up with the funds for a vacation or pleasure trip.

 

This is where Sunset Wish Foundation comes in.  Our goal is to provide this opportunity for these individuals. Every wish within the Wish Fulfillment Program is as unique as the person it is being requested for. We mold each wish to the recipient’s exact needs, wants, and desires.  We will try to make each wish come true. But we can only accomplish this with the generosity of others.

 

In the process of fulfilling wishes, we try to generate an opportunity for serenity, closure, a sense of belonging, and treasured memories for each person involved.

 

 

The Wish Fulfillment Program

 

Our goal is to provide the means for terminally ill adults to have the opportunity to create a final memory with their loved ones.

 

After an adult is referred to the Sunset Wish Foundation, we will contact the adult’s treatment physician to determine if the adult is medically eligible for a wish based on the medical criteria established by the Sunset Wish Foundation. The adult’s treating physician will make the determination of whether the adult’s medical condition qualifies him or her for a wish. The physician will also play a major role in determining whether the adult’s condition will permit a particular wish to be coordinated safely. The staff of the Sunset Wish Foundation will work closely with the wish adult’s physician to determine the most appropriate time to fulfill the wish, keeping in mind the adult’s treatment protocol or other concerns.

 

After the physician confirms that the adult is medically eligible, the board of the Sunset Wish Foundation will coordinate the Wish-Fulfilling process by approving the wish and coordinating volunteers who will set out to make it come true.  Every effort will be made by the board and volunteers of the Sunset Wish Foundation to include the immediate family in the adult’s wish.

 

All wish expenses are fully covered, including all travel and spending money when appropriate and family income is not a consideration in determining whether an adult is eligible to receive a wish.

 

The Sunset Wish Foundation respects the privacy of the adults and families it serves. We consider all wish information confidential and will not discuss the information with outside parties unless it is needed for the wish, and the wish adult of guardians have consented.

 

All wishes granted will be at the discretion of the board of directors. Prioritization of a wish will be judged by the availability of the funds of the Sunset Wish Foundation.
